Recovery EL61939 – Eurasian Hobby

We have had a recovery notice, a Eurasian Hobby, the bird was found dead on the 10th of June 2013 in Milagro, Navarra, Spain.

A distance of 1286km from the nest site , 309 days after being ringed.

1 of a brood of 3 ringed at a Confidential Site in West Yorkshire in August 2012.

It is fairly safe to assume that this bird was returning to Europe after overwintering in Southern Africa. Whilst we have no exact details of where this particular bird migrated too or the exact route or destination, we have attached a rough map showing that this bird had in all probability travelled almost 10,000 miles since leaving the nest approximately 296 days previously.Image
